My living room was the first room to get a makeover when I purchased my home. It was without a doubt the room where I suspected I would be hanging out the most, and has certainly turned out to be that way. I have to say I am in love with this room now, but definitely wasn't in love when I first viewed the house with my real estate agent. Here is the room before:
Just check out those walls. That deep red color made the room seem a lot smaller than it was so that had to go immediately. The sconces also completely turned me off. These 'Beauty and the Beast' style faux candles really didn't do it for me - so they got chucked right away as well.
This room was an add-on to the existing house. The house was built sometime in the 1920s and then this room was added on as an extension in the 1980s (we think). I'm so grateful for the extension because it added this great living space, without it I would have only a small living room area. However, why they did the 2 separate patio doors I don't know.
With a small budget the room was certainly transformed. Paint and new fixtures started the process and then it was just little things, new curtain panels, some artwork and some other DIY projects and the room is now 100x better. Don't be discouraged by a home with bad paint and fixtures, that stuff can be easily changed without a huge hit to your bank account. This room transformation probably only cost me around $300 and I love it
